Surface investigations of metal oxides
Diebold, Ulrike
United States

During the past decade, atomic-scale investigations of metal oxides have become a major research thrust in surface science. This vivid interest is sparked by the many applications of oxides, and the fact that an intimate knowledge of surface (electronic) structure and reactivity could improve device performance in many technical areas. The talk will give an brief overview of current surface science research on bulk oxides, and will point out recent developments and future opportunities, in particular on less-well studied forms of popular oxides (such as TiO2 anatase), technologically important optically-transparent conducting oxides, as well as oxide nanostructures.
