Complex phenomenon in solids is a major theme of modern physics. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy has emerged as a leading tool to push the frontier of this important field. The power of photoemission stems from the direct way it measures the electronic structure and many-body processes that influence it. In the past decade, enormously improved resolution and experimental collaborations have allowed this technique to influence many important questions of quantum physics. In this talk, we will highly a few examples based on our recent data from layered transition metal oxides: cuprates, manganites and ruthnates.
