Among the different methods for production of Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is suitable for mass production of high quality carbon nanotubes. SWNTs are synthesized by CVD of methane on alumina-aerogel as catalyst support for Fe/Mo nanoparticles as catalysts. Alumina-aerogel-supported Fe/Mo catalysts were prepared by sol-gel method. Rotary evaporation and freeze-drying were used for drying of the resulted gel. The calcined and uncalcined catalyst powders were studied. SWNTs were synthesized in a quartz tube furnace and the parameters such as reaction time, reaction temperature and flows of methane or methane/Ar mixture as the reaction gas were examined to get the best results in large-scale-production of SWNTs. The so prepared nanotubes were analyzed by SEM, HRTEM and Raman spectroscopy.
