Carl Linnaeus lived and worked in Uppsala, with all the woods and fields of the
Uppland province as his place of study. Uppland is where he created his life's
work, making him one of Sweden's most famous men.
Hammarby lies on the flat land surrounding Uppsala, where Carl
Linnaeus would build his home. Here, he had his unique collections and carried
out his research and teaching. Even today, his study room looks just as it did
in the 18th century. This unique and historical environment contains many
genuine 18th century artifacts.
Linnaeus bought Hammarby in 1758 along with three neighboring farms and other
lands nearby. Upon his death in 1778, he was the greatest landowner in the
parish. Of Linnaeus’ lands, some fields and ditches remain with their original
18th century names, and a small fraction of his land has even been continuously
cultivated. It is important that these agricultural surroundings and the
pastoral views that greeted Linnaeus’ own eyes will be preserved for future
generations.
After the visit at Linné’s Hammarby the bus will take you to the Linné Garden
where you will have a chance to experience flowers of great beauty.
During the tour you will be guided by one of the most famous guides in Uppsala,
Hans Odöö.
The tour will end approximately around 18:00. Dinner will be served at 19:30 at
Restaurant Lingon just next to the First Hotel Linné.
Lingon is a restaurant which serves modern, food at its best and with the roots
in the Swedish husmanskost. Lingon's address is Svartbäcksgatan 30 where we in
an interior from the 1900 century will do our best to give you an experience you
will remember. Further information about the restaurant please visit:
